| Yhteenveto: | From the beginning of our presence in Argentina, we at Total Austral S.A. have included the mitigation of the environmental impact of our operations as one of the main company policies. A fundamental step of this policy consists in acquiring a detailed knowledge of the flora and fauna of the areas where we are active: the particularly rich coastal and offshore areas of the Argentine Patagonia. Supporting research work and publishing the results to share this knowledge are part of this effort.
We have contributed with the publication of numerous works with topics as diverse as the astonishing living realm of this region. Among these are a guide for bird identification, a guide on the most common and attractive fungi of the Andean-Patagonian forests and another on the mollusks of Patagonia and Southern Chile.
In the present case approach the study of the marine mammals of Patagonia an Antarctica. The singular interest and genuine fascination for these animals, together with the abundance and diversity of the species from this biologic group living in our seas, allow us to assume that the present publication will constitute a valuable reference, both in Argentina and abroad.
In this way, as part of the Total Group and as the first offshore production operator in Argentina, we expect to enrich our dialogue with the community and demonstrate our special interest in the marine environment through the publication of this field guide for the identification and observation of the detailded charecteristcs of the marine mammals which inhabit the Argentine sea. |
